Conflicting reports of a WNBA investigation surfaced on social media Wednesday due to an allegation of profanity directed at a player. The Seattle Storm was the team accused.

A player reportedly complained to the league about being cursed at by an opposing assistant coach. An update on the staff member’s actions has since followed.

The player and coach in the accusation remain unnamed. The incident is said to have stemmed from a confrontation during a recent Seattle game against the Las Vegas Aces.

Initial updates stated that a WNBA investigation was underway.

Women’s basketball reporter Khristina Williams said that the league was investigating the Storm coaching staff for profanity directed at an Aces player. That statement was later adjusted.

The WNBA did not launch a formal investigation.

Soon after Williams’ social media update, major sports networks began following up with the league. While the reporting of a formal investigation was struck down, the WNBA did review the player’s complaint.

Williams clarified when given more information. It seems a former Storm player, now with the Aces, was spoken to disrespectfully by a Seattle staff member.

Again, neither the coach nor player has been named. Interestingly enough, former Seattle player Jewell Loyd filed a complaint against the Storm coaching staff last year. She then requested a trade and landed in Sin City.

The WNBA turned up no findings of violations in that previous investigation. Seattle was not punished. It seems that could be the case with this latest complaint, too.

Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports posted an update on the expected outcome of the alleged confrontation. She doesn’t anticipate any fines or suspensions being handed out.
