San Francisco Giants pitcher Sean Hjelle is currently under investigation by MLB. His wife, Caroline Hjelle, accused him of infidelity and “abuse” in a viral post on TikTok.
Except she did not clarify what she meant by “abuse,” which puts the league in an awkward spot.
Hjelle is currently six games into his fourth MLB season with the Giants. The 6-foot-11 relief pitcher owns a 4.66 ERA through six appearances thus far in 2025. He was called back up to the Bigs at the beginning of June after a brief stint on the AAA level. He allowed one run on two hits in one inning of work against the Boston Red Sox on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, his (ex? soon-to-be ex?) wife Caroline Hjelle lit him up on social media. She posted the following video alongside her children to accuse him of “affairs” and “abuse” while she raised two boys alone.
Caroline and Sean got married on Nov. 16, 2021. They had their first of two children together approximately one year prior. They had their second child together in March 2022.
Their marriage seems to be on its way to divorce if it is not legally there already. Caroline Hjelle first alluded to issues last October.
She seemingly doubled down in November.
Caroline accused Sean Hjelle of “lies” in April— claiming she discovered the truth a year prior.
Here is where things get a little bit wonky. Caroline used the word “abuse” in her most recent post, which is not to be taken lightly. The San Francisco Giants are aware of the allegations. MLB is now in charge of the investigation.
We are aware of these serious allegations. We have been in contact with MLB. These type of allegations fall under their jurisdiction and we won’t be commenting further.

Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association reached an agreement on a joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy in 2015. The Commissisoner’s Office will investigate all allegations of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse involving members of the baseball community.
However, it is unclear as to what Caroline means by “abuse.”
If Sean Hjelle is found guilty of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or child abuse, he will either face a lengthy suspension or banned. If his (ex?)wife is talking only about the emotional abuse he caused her when her (ex?)husband cheated on her, that is not covered by MLB policy. He could not be punished.
With that being said, Hjelle is the 25th or 26th man on San Francisco’s roster so he is very expendable. This latest scandal could be a distraction and/or negative attention for a team in playoff contention. It could choose to cut him loose or send him back down anyway. We’ll see.
All we know as of right now is that Caroline Hjelle accused Sean Hjelle of infidelity. Should it come out that he was physically or psychologically abusive beyond the circumstances of the affair, he could face discipline. He would be allowed to keep playing if that did not occur. It is a horrible look for the 28-year-old relief pitcher either way but the word “abuse” leaves this situation unresolved.
