The Seattle Seahawks selected former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe with the 92nd overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He was not their first choice at the position.
Things got extremely awkward at the organization’s press conference when the general manager and head coach were asked about their evaluation process.
Milroe is one of the most contentious prospects in the NFL Draft. Some fans and analysts consider him to be a diamond in the rough. Others think he is going to be a bust because he cannot throw.
The Seahawks are believers, obviously. They drafted him with the 28th pick in the third round, their fourth of 11 selections on the weekend.
The biggest concern with Jalen Milroe is as a passer. There are accuracy issues. His decision-making in the pocket is a large part of the problem, but his arm strength is impressive and he can run. Seattle must be confident that he can improve in the pocket with the right coaching!
However, Milroe was not the organization’s No. 1 player at the position.
He thought he was. He was not…
Milroe told reporters on Friday that the Seahawks told him that he is the best quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft during his official top-30 meeting. The 22-year-old is very excited about the fit and cannot wait to learn from Sam Darnold and Drew Lock.
When asked if that was true, general manager John Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald were hesitant to answer. Schneider eventually spoke up. Jalen Milroe was not the top quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft per their evaluation, but it was “dang close.” Awkward!

On one hand, I appreciate the honestly. On the other hand, I think it might’ve been better if Schneider just played along with what Milroe said and lied. The truth hurts. Maybe it is better for a rookie quarterback to know exactly where he stands with his new time. Or perhaps it would be easier to keep the magic alive and talk to him about the truth behind closed doors if deemed necessary.
