The New York Giants have been searching for a franchise quarterback since the end of Eli Manning’s career, and general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll know that their job security is directly connected to them getting a quarterback to play well and show some long-term promise this year.
On Sunday, the New York Giants got their guy they hope will do just that. They traded back into latter stages of the first round to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. After the draft, Daboll set the record straight on who the Giants’ current starter is.
After the team finally cut bait with the dreadful Daniel Jones and with Drew Lock also moving on, the quarterback room was remade in franchise history. The G-Men brought in veterans in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to help fortify the room, but the expectation was that they would be targeting a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.
They passed on the quarterbacks with the third-overall pick, opting for Penn State’s Abdul Carter instead. They traded picks 34 and 99 this year and a third-rounder next year to trade up back to pick 25 to take Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, spurning Shedeur Sanders.
Dart has a lot of upside, at least the Giants hope so. But, entering spring workouts, he will not be the starter for the Giants.
HC Daboll on the QB position:
"Russ [Wilson] will be our starter in the spring as they get started."

I’m sure Giants fans are excited to see what they have in Dart, but it makes sense to have a veteran in Russell WIlson start OTA’s as the starter. The question is, how long can he keep the job?
