New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has an interesting way of identifying himself. According to the 23-year-old rookie RB, he’s a “little bit hood” and a “little bit country.”
During a recent appearance on the St. Brown Podcast, hosted by brothers and NFL players Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown, Cam Skattebo was asked about his background after Equanimeous noted that his apperance — partly because had “chains on” — was “spicy White.”
This prompted to Skattebo to share details about his upbringing, saying he grew up around a lot of “ghettoness” and therefore as a “little bit of hood” in him, in addition to having some “country.”
“I’m looking at you, are you full white?” Equanimeous St. Brown asked the Giants rookie on his podcast. “Because I feel like you look a little spicy white, I don’t know what it is. I can’t tell. You’ve got the chains on.”
“I grew up with a lot of ‘ghettoness’ in my life. So, you know, I’ve got a little bit of hood to me, but I’ve also got some country to me too,” Skattebo replied.
Skattebo grew up in Rio Linda, California, which has a population of about 17,00 and a median income of about $45,000. As of the 2024 census, the medium household income in Rio Linda was $96,000. The 2024 census indicated that Rio Linda is 66% White, 25% Latino, 7.5% Asian, and 2.7% Black.
The former Arizona State University standout now likely finds himself in the suburbs of northern New Jersey, which is neither ghetto nor country, meaning Skattebo could be in for a bit of a culture shock.
Heading into the 2025 season, Skattebo finds himself third on the Giants depth chart behind second-year running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. and veteran tailback Devin Singletary.
Skattebo, whom the Giants selected in the 4th round of the 2025 NFL Draft (105th pick overall), had 293 carries for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns, and 45 catches for 605 yards and 3 touchdowns during his final season at ASU, which also saw him finish 5th in Heisman Trophy voting.
