Minnesota Lynx forward Alanna Smith is not gay. However, she is an ally to the homosexual community and her WNBA teammates who identify differently!
The 28-year-old is not quite sure why people get her sexuality confused as often as they do.
This hilarious sequence of events started with an Instagram post from a magazine called ‘Fruitslice.’ It describes itself as a “quarterly publication featuring exclusively Queer writers, artists and creators.” The post ranked the “gayest” teams in the WNBA by the amount of LGBTQ+ players on the roster.
Minnesota received the No. 2 spot because “its roster is stacked with Courtney Williams, Kayla McBride, Natisha Hiedeman and Alanna Smith. The Lynx also got “major bonus points for Queer leadership and legacy” like head coach Cheryl Reeve.
However, one of those things is no actuallyt like the other. Smith commented on the post to clarify that she is not gay and prefers to date men as someone who is straight. Somebody at Fruitslice got it wrong.
So sorry to disappoint but this is me coming out publicly as straight. I am a strong ally tho 🙌

Smith also doubled down with a hilarious quip on her IG story so this must be a reoccurring issue for her. People just assume she is gay, likely by nature of her profession. But she is not!

Napheesa Collier responded to Smith’s story with a trio of laughing emojis. Maybe she knows something about her teammate that we don’t. Maybe she found humor in the post like the rest of us. Probably the latter.
Either way, Smith officially came out… as straight. That is not to say the Australian-born WNBA forward does not have love for people who view the world differently. She just likes men! No big deal.
Now that that is cleared up, we can go forth knowing that Alanna Smith is a gracious ally to the LGBTQ+ community but does not partake. I can finally rest easy.
